2022 today everything is online
Excellent
Pandemic changed all.
Coursera is awesome!! I got two Certificates from two Ivy League Colleges. I am now working on a third. A Law course. I have a degree, but I believe many employers will see a person at least doing something to better themselves intellectually during these times. I actually enjoy and have learned a lot from these courses!!!
I learned more in a 6 week course than in two years of college, and I also was better prepared to go into my field of study. Certificates are just a better option than college for gaining depth of field, and will make you eligible for more jobs/ more effective in them.
Does the certificate on your resume actually help though?
An argument suggesting big institutions are slow to see the value is undermined by the fact that some of those institutions are offering online courses themselves on Coursera such as BCG, PWC, Deloitte… in fact, I think Deloitte requires new starters to do certain Coursera courses online.
All care certificates are done online now.
I am not being offended but the criteria the industry are looking for are the ability and not the certificate. I believe that industry will trust more onto the project-based portfolio of one than how one exaggerate in his/her cv.
Your video covers just one side of the equation. Those online courses like CS50 from Harvard are high quality educational material and can be watched for free. Its powerful knowledge base to learn new subject if you have a business idea or want to solve some world problems. Looking at it just as another point in resume to get another job to waste your time in exchange for money sound absurd to me. Maybe someone wants to create an app but does not know how to code and he can learn it online from top university course and in shorter timeframe and for free.
Make an updated version please
I'm currently doing a HarvardX online course on astrobiology as I want to become an astrobiologist. I know full well that when I pass I won't be able to get a job with NASA or a local institution straight away but it's a feather in my cap and I plan to look for other courses or experiences to educate myself further in this field. Just have to expect to hit the books for a few years picking up whatever qualifications I can along the way before seriously thinking about making a career out of it but every bit helps. Edit - I'm currently doing the free section of the course and the upgrade is £80/$99 so that seems fair to me.
Heck I my self used to laugh at online degrees then pandemic happened. I joined few courses here and there just to realise the quality is there and some courses are even better than how they taught me in uni. I recommend if u can afford go to uni but if u really dislike traditional methodology then don't. Get a job and study on the side. There will be money earned and things learned aswell. A good combo nevertheless. I myself am contemplating to have a side budget just to join course once every while. Yes I could read books but I found reading book alone isn't enough. Some structure is needed. In books, we are thinking and there is a flow, we have to structure our thoughts and there is me deeply thinking for a long time which itself is fun but I am really loving them online courses too. It's fun. We get to watch vids, do some reading and quizzes on the side. I am lovin it. And sticking it in the resume is fun. I will be surprised if employers think of online degree as nth. It's a good supplementary training aswell. If they got good commonsense they should apply it in their organisation to lower the training cost and encourage learning. Orelse fall behind.
Any 2022 Updates?
Very well said, its like this even though that the company doesn't recognize the certification still you got the knowledge of the training that you learned.
I am looking for marketing knowledge courses online not for resume but actually for knowledge and applied it to my small business. Can anyone recommend a good one besides YouTube videos and google?
I did the same course at Bocconi.
Ciao from Italy
This is a very strange video
