Food in Rarotonga, is it good? Expensive? In this vlog we try a bunch of food, visit a few restaurants and the Muri Night Markets. In the Cook Islands Ika Mata is...⬇ More Below ✈ This is how we travel non-stop — 🤍geni.us/9VHNx We're sad to say this is our 4th and final vlog from Rarotonga — it's sad to say goodby to the Cook Islands! Next time we definitely need to visit more than just Rarotonga, the Cook Islands have lots more to discover that we haven't yet seen or shown. Before leaving food had to take priority though, so in this one we spend the day eating our way around the islands and hunting out Ika Mata. Over our week in Rarotonga we got lots of recommendations for restaurants to visit, local food we had to try and some cravings of our own. Ika Mata is a seafood dish that was at the top of that list, but finding it fresh, on the right day it's available or not sold out already was actually really hard! Fortunately we got a taste for it and also had some friends make us Ika Mata (that we didn't film sadly) and it's safe to say this needs to be at the top of the list for best food to get in Rarotonga. The other food we hunted out were all tasty and all up, considering the sizes and pretty little servings we eat these days, $55 NZD / $33 USD / £26 was enough to feed us for the day happily. In saying that, the fish curry was legitness and if the lines hadn't got so large when we ate the first plate we totally would have bought another one, even if we couldn't finish it. Kia Orana from Raro! Just found your vlogs and really enjoyed watching them! I've lived in beautiful Raro for 2 years (work at Moana Sands Lagoon Resort where you stayed!). 😍 Congrats on showing Raro off so well, despite the weather you had! See you back in our little island paradise soon! 🤩🌴🌊🌴
I'm from Rarotonga myself and how could you eat so little when you're there! You didn't even try chop suey, rukau or poke! Those are definite recommendations for when you come back!
You should visit Aitutaki, another beautiful place it’s like heaven on earth.
HulaBar! The Bar with the cheap drinks, lol We LOVE our booze. I stayed there at the Islander and Edgewater Resort and then with family a day before leaving, would go back in a heartbeat! Partied so hard on the island I lost my iPhone7 at that bar too 😂😂😂😂 too drunk to remember!
Stacey - I really wanted a pizza, but It didn't seams right :D
Dane though Casanova(80’s pop tune) was local music!! Love you guys
I’m cringing at the $7 a nu/coconut 😖
For next time...The Mooring Fish Cafe has the best Ika Mata, I’m such a fiend for it. They also have the best fish sandwiches like the FOB.
I love burgers and Villis burgers are my favourite.
I would have recommended trying Rukau (creamed taro leaves), poke (banana dish) or Mayonnaise (potato salad) you won’t find them in NZ but you could easily make ika mata yourself at home. There’s small convenience stores (or “dairies” for the kiwis) around the island, visit them before lunch time and you can find all the favourites... island donuts, chop suey, taro, rukau etc.
Try find an umu plate at the night market. An umu is food cooked in the ground kind of like a hangi.
I’d recommend beluga for best cafe. They do a good tuna sashimi eggs Benedict!!
I enjoy watching your videos, it’s hard to find good ones on Raro.
Island fries-Taro.
I'm on island time after watching this :D
Have you been to Aitutaki?
Hi Daneger & Stacey first time responder to your vlog. Absolutely, Love it! I learn a lot about the world by watching you.
But ,the song that is playing in the background, is called "Casanova". It was at one time a very popular and important record notably in Black American culture. The song originates in United States, is being performed by the late and extremely popular American R &B artist Gerald Levert. Son of the revered Eddie Levert , a co-founder of the soulful singing group "The O'Jays".
You were listening to a recording. The song was not being played live by locals.
Ika Mata = "kinilaw" and Coconut Fish Curry = looks like "kare kare". Yummy vlog! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ from your avid fan stalking you all the way from my home workspace somewhere in the heart of VN.
So as well as the absolutely fantastic island scenery and vibe, there is great food on offer too! That last dish looked so good. I liked the idea of the smokey bacon and BBQ sauce on the burger too. This video makes me seriously look forward to your new travel videos in NZ now that the lockdown is being eased there :)
