Vata is the energy of movement; pitta is the energy of digestion or metabolism and kapha, the energy of lubrication and structure. In the physical body, vata is the subtle energy of movement, pitta the energy of digestion and metabolism, and kapha the energy that forms the body's structure.
The pitta prakriti is borne out of the fire element. A typical pitta person will be well-built and of a medium and sturdy countenance. The calves and arm muscles are usually well-developed and the skin is radiant, though some pitta types may have acne problems even past their teens.Jun 13, 2014
Favor cool over warm or hot. Nourishing & light food must take precedence over dense or heavy food items. Dry food over liquid help curb pitta dosha. Mild drinks like fresh juices over hard ones like alcohol or caffeine based drinks work as a wonderful example of pitta pacifying foods.
2) Cooked foods, served hot or warm, are ideal for balancing Vata. Pureed soups, cooked fruit, hot cereal rice pudding and hot nourishing beverages such as nut milks or warm milk are excellent “comfort” foods and help pacify aggravated Vata. Avoid or minimise raw foods such as salads and raw sprouts.
The classical Ayurvedic text known as the Charaka Samhita describes the vata phase of life as our final act, starting around age 50 or 60. As the vata in our constitution increases, we experience a range of physical and mental changes, ranging from drier skin to declining cognitive abilities.
